Sponsored movies of the 70’s and 80’s were the precursor to Branded Entertainment, and it’s a major way of getting funded today. But is it the future? Terence and Philip discuss examples and why it might be more successful.
Many thanks to Isai Espinoza for editing the show again and making us sound smart.

Thanks for an interesting show and some respite from FCPX talk!! I’m very intrigued by the idea of modern branded media, especially for online distribution. Can you guys share more examples of branded media? The “Will It Blend?” series is cool but fairly niche as far as sponsors go..
Please point out some other branded media/entertainment advertising series for us listeners 🙂
There was also the recent Old Spice Guy YouTube event, that was a pretty big branded production that got a lot of attention. High production values too.
Of course, this excludes shows that are either a) too dark, gritty or otherwise unnappealing to advertisers, or b) shows that have no way to incorporate modern products (i.e. Game of Thrones and other sci-fi/fantasy).
Dark shows could be harder to get a brand sponsor for, but not all brands’ brand is sweetness and light! Hot Topic as a sponsor? 🙂
There are a ton of shows being sponsored on the internet right now. Many on YouTube. Just for fun I googled:
“our internet show is sponsored by” and found a ton of them.
